Who's blown your whistle?

Ever wanted to be a spy? There you are, 10 years old, fully kitted out as action man (complete with eagle eyes), viewing the neighbours garden over the fence trying to work out where the blind spots are; hell bent on getting some apples from their prized tree. Fantastic.

Zip forward a few years and you have a successful whistle blowing website that is constantly in the news and many are calling you a freedom hero; but on the downside, you appear to have a darker side and Sweden want to have a chat to you.

For those of us who felt that MI5&6 had frankly overlooked a promising young Bond or Femme Fatale, you can now devour all the communiques from "our man in ....." via Wikileaks. You get to nose into documents you really shouldn't be seeing and gaining information that should really be under lock and key. Well we are inquisitive beasts by nature, so having a sneaky peek can't do any harm can it.

What if it's your data that someone is looking at? - Different story now isn't it?

There will always be those who would love to get hold of your information for a variety of reasons and it is your responsibility to make sure they don't.

So what can you do to protect your data. Well firstly you can back up your critical data on your PC / server and keep it off site. Secondly you should put your paper archive off site, preferably with a document and data management company, such as Safebox I dare say.

Archiving and data backup is a highly cost effective way of protecting your data. Don't let it get into the wrong hands, the fines alone for the loss of data are huge, not to mention the bad press it attracts.

So have a go at playing spy and see how easy it is for the wrong people to get hold of your data.

And I'm sorry but MI5 applications are currently closed!
