Networking is dead, long live networking!

Is it just me or is this social media thingy taking over our lives? We Tweet, we Blog, were are all Linkedin and we all have our face in a book, or something like that.

You can spend hours ensuring that you appear in every directory, listing and dark corner of your virtual existence. I'm sure it does some good but are we loosing the face to face skills of good, old fashioned networking?

I was at a networking event this morning with my branded Safebox jacket, Safebox shirt and business cards in hand, ready to learn and educate with the assembled several.  I met some excellent contacts that may have need of my services and businesses that could provide a complimentary element to my business. These good fellow bacon munchers, duly took my card, listened to what I had to say and by the time I got back to the office, I had been tweeted and had several invitations to Linkin. Would I have got this response from doing this on line? Probably not.

Document and Data storage is one of those things that needs a little explaining if you are not sure what's involved and it's even better if we can show people. Networking is still an essential part of business but equal attention needs to be given to both forms, physical and virtual.
