Why plan ahead when you can wait 'till disaster strikes!

Ok I know it is a phrase that bosses love to throw at people and we've all heard it a thousand times but....

Fail to plan / plan to fail

It is spot on and very accurate.  The reason I mention this is a call came through yesterday from a client I quoted for document and data management 2 years ago. Like any good salesman I followed them up at regular intervals until they eventually said, "it's not something we are going to be going ahead with, we'll call you if we change our minds."

Fast forward two years and an electrical fault, which fortunately was contained, sparked in their office and scared the hell out of them.

After the electrician I was the next call.

The client now had dark thoughts roaming un-checked through his mind as to what would have happened had his archive been lost. The client painted his own picture and added vivid detail, all I had to do was say, "we can collect everything tomorrow".

Client nerves settled and I imagine a business continuity plan being hastily created and implimented.

It is a shame that in a lot of cases it takes a shot accross the bows or sadly a data loss, before people start thinking about off site document and data management.

Peace of mind has a much smaller price tag than you think but in the end can you really put a figure on your data?
