Networking in a blue moon

For those of us who network and let's be honest if you're not, why not? Do you feel remembered when the event has finished?

I am a member at The Business Club in Cambridge which meets every other week, unlike some of the regimented "you must be here without fail or we'll tell you off" groups. As I was on paternity leave I had missed a meeting and therefore wasn't represented (none of this silly subs lark). However I was delighted to find that even though I had been away, my colleagues had still been thinking of me, and updated me on leads and conversations where my name had cropped up.

As I have always said, "what a fine bunch they are".

No doubt my regular attendance (pre baby) had locked me in their minds and my 60 second pitches has been so riveting that they could do nothing but remember me. Well no actually. Ok maybe but the point is this, I have taken time to understand their business, their target market and who they want to speak to. If I come across a snippit of information that I feel may be relevant to their business, I will pass it on.

We don't need rule books and bench marks, all we need is people meeting with a common interest to help and grow each others businesses and the comforting knowledge that if we call help, your networking colleagues will.

The Business Club is a "Business Club", support, help and business. Nice and simple.

Networking is so important to the growth of any business but you need to find the right style for you but as you got dressed by yourself this morning and you are reading this blog, I'm guessing you have the ability to talk and listen to people?

That's networking!
