Let go of the purse strings - it's a service industry

Who's for a double dip? I thought it was one of those things you got from the school tuckshop, or maybe that was a DibDab..... anyway. It's all doom and gloom, inflation, mortgage interest and tax is going through the roof and we're all going to starve and sell our children for food by September.

So here comes the balance of money against service, it's the accountants choice.

We all know the old saying of "You get what you pay for". Well it seems that some are not applying this wise mantra when letting their archive out of the door into the hands of the unknown.  Yes yes I know budgetary constraints and forward cash projections are important but so is your data.

Recently a potential client made the decision to go with their existing stationary supplier as they had a "bit of room" to keep their archive. It's frustrating when you loose a deal but get over it, it happens. However when you loose a deal to a stationers who "are having a go" at archive management, it does make you wonder what the client was thinking. It turns out to be cash, pure and simple. Don't get me wrong, I hope it is successful and they have no issues but I know that in 3 months it's all going to be going wrong and I'll have to pick up the pieces. I've seen it too many times before.

I raised my concerns to them sighting issues with box ID, correct environment, recalling boxes and files, data protection, security, training, compliance and all the other bells and whistles concerned with professional archiving but no go. If we had been the same price they would have been with us like a shot but it's money money money.

Actually it's not. Don't cut corners with your archive management, it will only increase the risk of something going wrong and ultimately your liability.

It's like doing up the wheel nuts on a car only hand tight and driving on the M25 to a garage. You'd probably be ok, but boy would you come unstuck if it went wrong.

Safebox, professional document and data management without the corners cut off.
