How important is lost data?

It's fairly safe to say that the phrase "data protection" has been one of the most used phrases of the past decade.

The press put their own unique spin on companies and individuals who infringe the regulations of data protection and give accurate and timely reporting on just who has screwed up this time.

Well the bad news is that it's not just Whitehall and the Big Corps who are now under the spotlight but the rest of us trading mortals. Should you (god forbid) have a data loss, the level of fine is now levied on not just the size (or assets) of the company but on the severity of the data loss.

As private businesses we do not have the resources to fight an information loss or leak and we certainly don't have the reddies to throw at spin when your error gets published for all you customers to see. Unless of course you have Max Clifford on retainer but why would you take the risk?

We must all comply with the rules and regulations laid down by the information Commissioners Office and reccomendations gives by the National Archives et al.

For your own business continuity, ensure that your critical data is archived and off site.

Archiving and off site storage may very well be the next best business move you make.
